Mauritius Beaches and Lagoons

Mauritius is rightly known as paradise on earth with its turquoise sea, white sandy beaches, and pristine lagoons. Its lagoons lined with fine white sand are the embodiment of paradise to those who want to enjoy the sea or just a soak in the sun. All around the island, large strips of public beaches offer unbeatable relaxing possibilities during the week and great opportunities to mix with the local population at the weekends.  

 

Mauritius Golf

Mauritius possesses the world’s best golf courses. In fact, Mauritius was the third country where golf was played after UK and India. Mauritius Gymkhana Golf Club, is the oldest golf club in the Southern Hemisphere, and the fourth oldest golf course in the world (1844).

 

Mauritius Adventure Sports

The landscape of the island provides the perfect environment for sensational activities such as mountain hiking, parasailing and paragliding. Several attraction parks offer quad biking and karting through the countryside to the more adventurous nature lovers. Other sensational activities include mountain climbing canoeing and mountain biking.

 

Mauritius Water Sports

In addition, being surrounded by a coral fringing reef, Mauritius is ideal for snorkelling, scuba diving and submarine activities where divers can come across dolphins, whales, sharks, barracudas, eagle rays and an innumerable amount of fish. Mauritius offers world class spots for wind surfing and kite surfing, mostly and south western part of the island. Other water sports include skiing, wake boarding, sub-scooter and underwater walk.

 

Mauritius Sailing & Cruises

Cruise lovers have  plenty opportunities to join a yacht tour, a catamaran cruise or to charter privately. Yachts or Catamarin cruises are also available for hire to visit the outer islands of Mauritius on the North, East, and West coast

Mauritius Deep Sea Fishing

Mauritius is one of the best spots for deep sea fishing activities. The species found in the Mauritian seas include Blue or black marlin, all types of sharks, varieties of tuna (skipjack, yellow fin or dog tooth), sailfish, bonitos, dorado, wahoo and barracuda. A number of deep sea fishing competitions have become regular events over the years. The most prestigious one is the Marlin World Cup which is organised in December.

 

Mauritius Shopping

Mauritius is an ideal shopping location with its traditional markets as well as modern shopping malls. Diamond jewellery, fancy jewellery, sunglasses, branded items, engravings, antiques, spices, crafts products are a few among the vast range of products available.

 

Mauritius Nightlife

Warm, starlit evenings provide an idyllic setting for al fresco dining, dancing and romantic strolls on the beach. There is a lively atmosphere with nightclubs, pubs and restaurants along the North and the West coast. International DJs are often invited for special occasions. French, English, techno or jazz music are all on offer.

 

Mauritius Horse Racing and Riding

Mauritius has the oldest race course in the Southern Hemisphere.. It was built in 1812. The Mauritius Turf Club, is the second oldest in the world, after the British Jockey Club. Races take place on Saturdays or Sundays during the months of May to November. Mauritius boasts a thriving and sophisticated racing community that attracts jockeys from around the world. Horses are imported from South Africa, Australia, England and France. The Mauritius scenery is perfect for horse riding.
